Jean Claire Lawson, 88, of Yukon, OK passed away on Aug. 11, 2017. She was born October 3, 1928 to Robert Lair and Jeanne Rice Fry in the Little Hospital in Yukon, Oklahoma. She had an older brother, Marvin Reo Fry. The family resided in the Yukon area in the West Point community southwest of Yukon. Jean Claire attended grade school in the rural, one room West Point School. She graduated from Yukon High School. Then on to Phillips University in Enid, Oklahoma. In 1948 she married Harold Lawson and they began a farming partnership with her father on the land homesteaded by her grandparents, Robert M. and Lucy Hart Fry. She was a devoted mother to three children, Linda, Paul and Sue. For 15 years she worked part-time in the spring and fall at Kelsos Department Store in El Reno teaching women how to sew. Jean Claire was an active member of the West Point Christian Church and she served in many capacities on the local, regional, national and international level. She was Moderator of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Oklahoma, Secretary of the Oklahoma Conference of Churches, and served on the National Benevolent Association of Christian Churches. She attended several world Christian Women’s Fellowship events. She volunteered for numerous community groups: 4-H clubs, Extension Home and Community Education groups, Yukon Manna Pantry, Yukon Mobil Meals, and the Mabel C. Fry Library in Yukon. She helped organize groups, hosted international students, she and Harold were invited to be part of the People to People Friendship Force tours visiting groups in other countries, working for friendship and peace. She also entertained people from other countries with the Oklahoma Friendship program. Her devotion to faith, family and friends helped her to live joyfully. She is preceded in death by her parents her brother, Marvin Reo Fry and her son, Robert Paul Lawson. She is survived by husband, Harold; daughters, Linda Lawson and Sue Turner of Yukon; granddaughters Whitney Hollar and daughter Stella Gebard and step-daughters Brittany & Amanda Hollar of OKC: Amy Chase, husband Andy and daughters Abby & Anna of Jones: Teri McKeen of Yukon: Kaylan Weese, husband Josh and daughter Maeva and step-daughter Sndney of Oregon: daughter-in-law Shan Lawson of Oregon; cousins Nancy Hudson of CO, Mike Fry of Yukon, Marjorie Mosel of OKC; brother-in-law Ralph Lawson & Jane Sloan; and sister-in-law Floydeen Bruce & husband Harry of AZ. She will be missed by numerous extended relatives and dear friends. A visitation will be held Friday Aug 18 from 10AM until 8PM and on Saturday Aug 19 from 9AM until 8PM, with the family greeting friends at the funeral home from 5PM until 7PM on Friday. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to West Point Christian Church, 1608 S. Richland Road, Yukon, OK 73099 or the Mabel C. Fry Library, 1200 Lakeshore Drive, Yukon, OK 73099. Friends may sign our online guest book at A memorial service will be held Tuesday Aug 22 at11AM in the First Christian Church in Yukon. A private burial was held in the Yukon Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Smith & Turner Mortuary, Yukon, OK.
