Life Story for Eugene ""Gene"" Nelson

Eugene “Gene” Nelson, lifetime Yukon resident, passed away on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at the age of 70. He was born November 10, 1947 in Mannheim, Germany and was the son of Jack and Gisela Haley.
Gene worked at AT&T for many years as an Electronic Specialist. In high school, Gene exceled at everything he put his mind to whether it be wrestling , football, teaching Mike to box, or acquiring the name “Mean Gene”. He was just kinda known for standing hard and firm on his convictions to persuade others. He may have been Mean Gene to everyone else, but to his family he was the best son, brother and father that anyone could ask for. Gene was a good son, always taking care of his brother and sister, and a good brother about always helping, playing and teaching like the older big brother he was. As far as his little sister Theresa is concerned, there will never be anyone to spoil her like her big brother Gene.
Gene’s children, Stephen Jason, Jackie and Annie have grown up knowing their daddy to be a “one of a kind” creation. Feisty, funny, and full of vinegar. Gene loved spending time with each of his kids, taking every opportunity to create a special memory whether it was a moment of gentle kindness for the memories of his children, or playing funny jokes on his children for a lifetime of laughter, that he rather enjoyed himself. Either way, everything Gene could dish out, his kids could take and experience the humorous side of their loving funny dad.
Gene enjoyed many hobbies like making candles, and sketching art, but most of all Gene found great joy in hearing his Yellow Head Amazon Parrots, Daisy and Charlies repeat the many words he has shared with them over the years. He loved all animals especially his Lab Hannah, and his kitties Pepper jack and “E-Butt”. Regardless of the nature, if Gene found a wounded animal, it was nursed back to health and eventually returned to whatever environment from which it came.
Gene was the excitement and the strength of his family and the memories will live forever in their hearts.
A funeral service will held at 12:00 pm, Saturday, January 27, 2018 at Smith & Turner Mortuary with burial to following at Moore Cemetery.
